Though the website does accept takedown requests, it doesn’t make it easy for people. Many of the photos also include detailed personal information about the men, including their full names and social media accounts. MaleGeneral is a revenge porn site that encourages users to share x-rated photos of random guys, boyfriends, ex-boyfriends, Grindr hookups, et cetera that were never intended for public consumption. 15% of LGBTQ people reported being threatened with revenge porn, and 7% reported having the threat carried out.
A 2017 study from the Center for Innovative Public Health Research found that 1 in 25 Americans say they’ve been confronted and/or threatened with revenge porn, with LGBTQ people being the most targeted group of victims.
